Photograph of North Main Street in Worthington
Basic details
Background
This photograph comes from a postcard titled "North Main St. Worthington O." Main Street is now known as High Street. The Columbus, Delaware, & Marion Interurban tracks can be seen in the middle of the street. The building on the left side of the image, which is now Fritzy-Jacobs, stands on the southwest corner of New England Avenue and High Street. The sign that extends from the building beyond the tree reads "(Resta)urant." The building seen just beyond the Restaurant is the Hotel Central (now known as the Worthington Inn).
The reverse side of the card is addressed to Miss Martha Huggett in Fremont, Indiana, care of P.F. Dixon, and the following is written: "7/24/08 Dear Folles - We recv'd your letter last night was glad to know you got through O.K. Father is feeling some better. Mother fell. Paul and Blanche are as usual. Heard you are eating fish. Still raining here this A. M. Good Bye Jessie"
Martha Hugget Edwards (b. 1901, d. 1983) was eight years old at the time she received this postcard, apparently, while she was traveling. She was born in Delaware, Ohio to parents Harry and Cynthia Tuller Huggett. Her grandparents were Adolphus and Martha Tuller. As an adult she resided at 670 Morning Street, close to her where her grandparents raised their family, at 656 Morning Street. It is probable "Jessie" was her uncle, Jessie A. Tuller (b. 1876, d. 1943), sibling of her mother Cynthia. He was married to Margaret "Blanche" Sims Tuller and in 1908 had a one-year old son, Paul, both referenced in the postcard. Jesse was a native of Worthington, who in adulthood became a retail merchant in the grocery industry. He and his brother Anthony Tuller (b. 1864, d. 1945) owned and operated Tuller Grocery for about 30 years.
