Background

This account of the history of the Worthington Library was written by Worthington resident Caroline Pocock Ward (b. 1868 d. 1940). She served as a member of the Worthington Library Board and worked in the printing industry in Columbus, Ohio. Included in this history are the Bylaws of the original Stanbery Library in Worthington, which were found among the papers of Worthington pioneer Ezra Griswold. Mrs. Ward traces the progression of the library in Worthington through the 19th century Worthington Literati to the village public library and the construction of the original James Kilbourne Memorial Library building which still stands on the Village green at 752 High Street.
