Worthington School Children
Basic details
Background
Worthington school children are pictured here with their teacher, Anna Johnson (b. 1869, d. 1949). Miss Johnson was a native of Worthington, daughter of Dr. Orville Johnson. She taught grade school in Worthington and also taught in Bexley. A poet and musician, she authored a children's booklet "My Five Little Songs", which was used in public schools.
A reproduction of this image appears in a newspaper clipping pasted into a Pingree family scrapbook in the Worthington Historical Society collection. The accompanying clipping from the unidentified publication indicates that Mrs. Pheobe Chapman identified many of the students, some from the classes of 1902 and 1903. The back row includes Morgan Milne (far left), Frank Welling (second from left), George Snow (sixth from left), Harry Clark (eighth from left), and Sam Flickinger (ninth from left). Identified in the second row, from left to right, are Harry Fuller, Fred Sharp, Harry Brooks, Roy Chapin, Delmar Locke and one unidentified student. The front row students are Cornelia Vest, Ida Pinney, Bessie Flickinger, Hattie Chapin, Katie Hyland, Grace Fuson, Birdye Evans and Roberts.
