Background

This photograph depicts the parlor in the John Snow House around the turn of the century. The interior has two deep arched alcoves flanking the fireplace, each framed by delicate pilasters. The room's decoration has some features of the prevailing Victorian style, with quantities of bric-a-brac and pictures on all surfaces. The John Snow House, located at 41 West New England Avenue, was built ca. 1815. It is a typical Federal style brick. The house's namesake, John Snow, was active in Worthington and Ohio Masonic activity, serving as grand master when the lodge was built. It is probable that earlier meetings were held in this home. Members of the Snow family occupied the residence until the 1930's.
