Worthington Foods Advertisement
Basic details
Background
This is one of the earliest full page magazine advertisements for Worthington Foods, appearing in Health and Life magazine in 1944. The company operated under its original name, Special Foods from 1939-1944, changing to Worthington Foods in 1945. The illustration in this advertisement shows the original Special Foods plant, which was formerly a residential structure. Directly behind it is the 1944 plant, a concrete block structure in which the ground floor was used for processing and the second floor for storage. The plant had been expanded due to increasing demand for vegetarian food products. Rationing of meat, cheese and butter went into effect in 1943 as a result of World War II.
