Background

This wedding dress was worn by Olive L. Snyder (b. 1867, d. 1945) at her wedding to Edwin Viets Griswold (b. 1879, d. 1950) at St. John's Episcopal Church on November 27th, 1906. A wedding announcement appeared in the November 29th, 1906 Westerville Public Opinion and stated "a quiet but elegant wedding was that of Miss Olive Snyder and Edwin V. Griswold, who were married Tuesday evening at 5 o'clock in St. John's Episcopal church at Worthington, Archdeacon McKenzie officiating. The bride was beautifully gowned in white chiffon and Irish lace trimmings and carried a bouquet of bridal roses..."

Edwin Griswold was the tenth of fourteen children born to Worthington and Fondelia Griswold. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1897 and attended The Ohio State University Law School. Olive L. Snyder was from Chillicothe, OH. They had one daughter, Ella S. Griswold Greenwood. After practicing law in Seattle, WA, Edwin entered Seabury Western Seminary in Evanston, IL and served as rector for Holy Cross-Immanuel, St. Matthews, and St. Elizabeth's in Chicago, IL. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason.
