Background
The main building on the fifty-acre Harding Hospital campus was known as the Lodge. It was a hub of activity from 1919 to 1981. Its porch was the site of Warren G. Harding's first public address following his nomination as Republican candidate for the United States Presidency. He delivered the address at a picnic of the Columbus Kiwanis Club and the Worthington Chamber of Commerce after a round of golf at the Scioto Country Club. He was later elected the twenty-ninth President of the United States. President Harding was the brother of Dr. George T. Harding II, founder of Harding Hospital, originally known as the Columbus Rural Rest Home.
