Timeline of Worthington History

Covering a span of over 10,000 years, this timeline features the notable events and people of Worthington, as well as Columbus and surrounding areas, Ohio, and the United States. It was a project of the Worthington Bicentennial Research Committee. Jennifer Lane Maier (Research Committee Chair), Miriam Utter (Worthington Room Librarian, Worthington Libraries) and Jennie McCormick (historian) created the timeline in 2002, in advance of Worthington's Bicentennial celebration the following year.

The timeline offers a detailed look at Worthington's prehistory and settlement by the Scioto Company, including dates for the company's scouting, purchase, and development of the site. Major events in Worthington's history throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries are detailed, ranging from the formation of businesses, schools, and other community organizations to the establishment of services such as telephone lines and streetcars. The city's contributions to the world stage are also noted, with information on veterans and casualties of war, as well as inventors such as Victor Moreau Griswold, the inventor of the ferrotype. Throughout the timeline, these dates are interspersed with other local, state and national events, allowing the reader to situate events within a broader historical context.
