School Children
Basic details
Background
A group of school children and their teacher are pictured here. The wide range of ages in one class indicate that they were attending a one-room school. These were very common in rural areas. Teachers would prepare lessons for all the grades in the classroom. Each grade would have a recitation period while other grades were doing claswork. The methods of instruction were rote learning, memorization, reading aloud and copying. The girl in the second row on the right is identified as Millicent Williams. She is listed in the Worthington Schools Alumni Directory as having graduated in 1926.
