Background

The Russell House (5807 High St.) and portions of the informal gardens surrounding the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Russell are depicted in this photograph. The Russells purchased the home in 1919 and subsequently three acres surrounding the structure, maintaining expansive gardens on the property for several decades. Mark Russell was an artist by profession and was an avid gardener. He was a member of the Columbus Rose Club and was an honorary member of the Worthington Garden Club. In the 1970s condominiums were built on the grounds surrounding the house where the informal gardens had been.
