Background
This color photo shows three children in the woods near the Olentangy River in 1965. From left to right are Sally Sifer, Allison Larson Scheuering and Susan Sifer. The photo was taken near the site of Whitney Playground, just west of Whitney Avenue.
State Route 315 was completed in its entirety in 1981. Prior to its construction, the river was much smaller. In the winter, the river froze to the degree that people were able to cross it by foot and even ice skate on it.
