New England Masonic Lodge
Basic details
Background
This postcard depicts the New England Masonic Lodge located at 634 High Street in Worthington. Taken at the turn of the century, it shows the lodge in almost original condition. Constructed in 1820, the building is the oldest Masonic Temple west of the Allegheny Mountains in constant use.
Several of Worthington's founders were Masons, and the lodge was an important part of the community's social structure. Freemasonry is a fraternal organization dedicated to the ideals of charity, equality, morality and service to God.
An adjoining Grand Lodge office was built constructed in 1955-1956, and was converted to condominiums in 2014.
