The Worthington High School athletic field was created and federally funded in 1935 as a project of the WPA (Works Progress Administration, a.k.a. Works Projects Administration), under the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Worthington resident, L. P. Patin was the chief engineer of the WPA in Worthington's district.
