Basic details
Background
This a love letter written to Mary Johnson of Worthington, Ohio from John M. Christian of Columbus, Ohio. In the letter, Christian goes on and on about how much he has missed Johnson since they last saw each other two weeks before. He talks of how much he would like to be sitting with her under the stars and talking. He teases her about not writing him. He concludes the letter by telling her that he is anxiously waiting to hear her father's answer in response to his proposal.
Mary was daughter of one of Worthington's founders, Orange Johnson and wife Achsa (Maynard) Johnson. She married Francis Sessions on August 18, 1847. The Sessions were interested in promoting art and art instruction in Columbus.
Nothing more is known of John M. Christian other than that his brief courtship with Johnson was called off because her father disapproved.
