Background

This letter was written to Mary Johnson of Worthington, Ohio from Ellen [Parrot] of Dayton, Ohio. No last name is written in the letter, but records show that there was a Josephine Parrott from Dayton, Ohio who was a student at the Female Seminary in 1841 according to the roster. Josephine Parrott had a sister, and in this letter Ellen refers to Josephine as one might a sister. Much of the letter is Parrott venting because Johnson seems to have forgotten her, even though they are old friends. Parrott makes it known that she was aware that Johnson visited Dayton but did not pay her a visit. She closes the letter with some news of mutual acquaintances.

Mary was daughter of one of Worthington's founders, Orange Johnson and wife Achsa (Maynard) Johnson. The Sessions were interested in promoting art and art instruction in Columbus.

Nothing more is know of Ellen Parrott.
