The Mound Builders left many monuments throughout Ohio. A description of the Jeffers Mound written in 1848 in Squirer's and Davis's ANCIENT MONUMENTS OF THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY describes a large mound, surrounded by an earthworks approximately 630 by 550 feet. The mounds were ceremonial sites, often with burials. The earthworks were destroyed when the land was converted into farmland in the 1920's.
The land surrounding and including the mound was part part of the original Scioto Company land purchase, and was divided into farm lots for Scioto Company subscriber, William Vining. Several archaelogical digs have been conducted on the site. The mound and land immediately surrounding it was donated to the Worthington Historical Society in 1974 and the site was nominated to the National Register of Historic Places.
