Basic details
Background
This is a childhood photograph of Herbert Worthington Griswold (b. March 7, 1882 d. July 2, 1956). He is clothed in a dress or kilt with a jacket decorated with lace, as made famous in "Little Lord Fauntleroy", a popular book by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Boys often did not wear trousers or pants until they were older. They wore dresses or kilts as did their sisters. The hightop button shoes and heels, combined with stockings, complete the costume.
Herbert W. Griswold, great grandson of Worthington pioneer Ezra Griswold grew up to serve the public as a fire fighter. He was appointed to the position of Sharon Township Fire Chief on April 3, 1928.
