Background

This dress, which dates to approximately 1858, was worn by Eliza Henry Snow (b. 1811, d. 1891). Originally from Ireland, Eliza married Dr. George Snow in November, 1831. Snow was the son of John and Mary Snow, who came to Worthington from Rhode Island in 1816. He worked as a physician in Worthington out of the building on the southwest corner of New England and High Street.

The garment is black silk that is all hand stitched with pagoda sleeves and passamenterie trim in serpentine pattern. The bodice is lined in linen.
