Draft of a Letter to an Unknown Friend Probably Written by Mary Johnson Sessions of Columbus, Ohio
Basic details
Background
This is a draft letter written to an unknown recipient from a writer assumed to be Mary Sessions. There is no identifying information on the letter, but the author has been inferred from context. The writer of the letter is very upset and hurt due to finding out that her husband changed his will and did not tell her. The changes that were made requested that money be given to a church but not “our church” and she suspects the recipient of the letter influenced him to do so.
Mary was daughter of one of Worthington's founders, Orange Johnson and wife Achsa (Maynard) Johnson. She married Francis Sessions on August 18, 1847. The Sessions were interested in promoting art and art instruction in Columbus. The Sessions art collection formed a basis for the Columbus Museum of Art collection.
