Colonial Hills Elementary School, located at 5800 Greenwich Street in Worthington, opened in 1955. In 1954 Colonial Hills subdivision was annexed to Worthington. This increased the population of Worthington, enabling the village to achieve city status. Colonial Hills was originally developed to provide housing for the workers at the Curtiss-Wright airplane factory during World War II.
