Background

This letter was written to Orange Johnson of Worthington, Ohio from William Johnson, his son, in Milan, Ohio. In the letter, Johnson tells his father that he has been very sick for several weeks which has forced him to neglect his studies. He then goes on to say that his money is running low and asks if his father would be able to send more so that he can stay at school and continue his lessons.

Orange Johnson (b. February 7, 1790 - d. November 28, 1876), was a comb maker by trade from Connecticut. Johnson migrated to Ohio in 1814, attracted to the Worthington Manufacturing Company, friends and family.

William M. Johnson was the son of Orange and Achsa (Maynard) Johnson. He was born in 1818 and died in 1840.
