Background

This is a photograph of Crissa Johnson Maynard (b. 1792, d. 1847), the sister of early prominent businessman, Orange Johnson. She migrated from Connecticut to Worthington, Ohio with her brother in 1814. Their parents were William Johnson (b. 1759, d. 1816) and Mary Knox Johnson. Crissa married Moses Maynard Jr. (b. 1792, d. 1862), the brother of Orange Johnson's wife Achsa. Moses Maynard Jr., son of Moses Maynard Sr. (b. 1755, d. 1834) migrated to Ohio from Massachusetts. The Maynards farmed the area south of Worthington now known as the Village of Riverlea in the 19th century. This photo was likely taken sometime in the few years before her death in 1847.
